Why custom?

Stock spindles from the hardware store rarely match your stairs! The beads sit at a different height & the length is made for standardized rails, so more often than not a replacement will stick out in the face of the old. On top of that, stores build from templates that likely don't match the work you've got in your house.

At Ottawa Spindles, we perfectly duplicate your existing balusters. We produce shop drawings, make spindles identical to the old ones in the same species of wood, using stains that match the original.

We also make fence & desk post caps, newels, boards, finials, and any & all other decorative wooden pieces!

How we work

  1. Email us your info or give us a sample. Use our form to email a photograph & width/height dimensions along with how many you'd like. Alternatively, you can walk into or mail a package to Henderson Furniture Repair's Ottawa showroom at 107 Colonnade Rd, Unit #7, Nepean, ON.
  2. Get a quote. We'll respond as soon as possible, usually within one business day.
  3. Get your parts. Quick turnaround & fast delivery means your spindles can arrive at your doorstep anywhere in North America.

Photographing your spindle

Put the spindle onto a contrasting background & photograph it from a high angle. Make sure the entire part is visible, and try to keep the camera in the middle of the piece.

Then, we just need a few pieces of info to get your spindle shaped properly:

  • Overall length(required)
  • Width & depth at the top/bottom(required)
  • Height of the top/bottom blocks(very useful)
  • Shaft diameterchecks the taper

We can also produce close matches from any clear photograph of a table or railing. If you want a perfect duplicate of complex existing profiles such as carvings, we may require a sample to be delivered via mail or drop-off at our Ottawa shop to ensure we can match it properly.
